Concept:
The Mini was released in the UK and Europe in 1959. However, it was not released in Australia, in a slightly different form and as the Morris 850, until 23 March 1961.
This eight-day series of events is to celebrate 50 years of the Mini in Australia.
It will be open to all owners of Minis, Mokes, new MINIs, factory variants and non-factory derivatives. Any Mini or associated vehicle is eligible for most events, with some specialist events having a restricted entry.
The festivities will kick off with the Mini’s Homecoming – a static display on the site of the former BMC factory at Zetland, Sydney.
The grand finale will be the Oz50 Mini Festival main event, to be held at Wakefield Park, Goulburn, NSW.
In the week between these two major events will be a number of smaller, but no less enjoyable, events. These will include a celebration dinner, tours to Bathurst and Katoomba (Catalina Park racing circuit), a boat cruise of the Sydney Harbour and a Mini movie night.
