Tour to Catalina Park
Monday 28 February
1st car departs from Tench Reserve, Tench Rd, Penrith (beside the Nepean River, near the M4) at 9.00am. Last car away at 10:00am
This tour is planned to provide some interesting roads through the Blue Mountains, to Katoomba and return to Sydney via a different route. Basically, it will be a tour with route instructions, but not difficult navigation, ending at Catalina Park in Katoomba, in the beautiful Blue Mountains.
Katoomba is the site of the old Catalina Park racing circuit where Minis scored many memorable wins. The track was particularly suited to Minis because of its numerous corners and fairly short circuit design.
Unfortunately, we have not been able to organise an official lunch area at the circuit, so participants in the tour will be guided past the site and will be able to make their own arrangements for walking around the track.
The circuit, part of The Gully, is now a sacred site in the hands of the traditional owners, and vehicles are not permitted anywhere on the grounds. Plans are underway for a major revamp of the area, but it is not known at this stage if anything of the old circuit will remain in Feb/March.
For this reason, this tour will now be a free event and will concentrate on providing a good day’s drive in some beautiful scenery. People who wish to, will have the afternoon free to visit the many tourist sites around Katoomba, buy lunch at one of the many restaurants or cafes, or enjoy a leisurely BYO picnic lunch.
